Small Vessel Regulations: (information gleaned from Transport Canada's, Safe Boating Guide (2009)
The Equipment Listed is the minimum that must be carried onboard. For it to Save Lives . . .
It must be Readily Accessible,
It must be Maintained, so it works when you need it! (Carry charged, spare batteries for the flashlight! Invert and shake dry-chemical fire extinguishers once a month, to avoid caking. To meet carriage requirements, flares must be less than 4 years old.
Familiarize yourself with function & proper operation and techniques! (Read the instructions)
*** not required if vessel can never be more than one nautical mile from shore, or it has no sleeping accommodation and it is preparing for, or engaged in an official competition.
Sailing vessel < 7m, when also using propulsion machinery (during the day) must display a conical shape, apex downward.
